Welcome to Woodwing Art. Home of personalized wooden plaques for motorcycle enthusiasts. Specializing in GL1800 Bikes and Trikes. Our signs are made from various woods, domestic and exotic, hardwoods and soft woods. Also hardwood plywoods.
Our plaques are designed for indoors and can be hung on the wall by their routed keyhole slot, or look good on a table with our specially designed easel. They are proving to be popular with Goldwing Chapters as gifts and awards. Numerous "COUPLE OF THE YEAR" signs in addition to "Chapter Director", and "District Director" have been made so far. They may be placed outdoors, but should never get wet or be placed in direct sunlight.
Mitch and Marie Kilgore, GWRRA Louisiana Chapter O, meticulously handcraft and finish each sign from laser and band sawed parts. Laser cut parts are reassembled with contrasting woods in a process known as Intarsia. They are affixed to a plywood gluing plate which is secured to a solid 3/4 inch block of plywood. The joints are stronger than the wood itself. The bike or trike is then inlaid with Grade A abalone and mother of pearl shell for headlight, turn signal and rear lights. This assembly then receives a fine finish and is securely screwed to an oval shaped background within a matching raised oval ring. This creates an attractive multi level sign that can be personalized with your name, motorcycle affiliations or whatever you want.
We will endeavor to put whatever names, slogans or affiliations on the sign that will fit. The price includes the backboard, the WOODWING wooden motorcycle and all the letters and banners attached.
NEW FOR 2009
For 2009 we are simplifying our product line. The majority of our first years sales were for the Bikes and Trikes with Abalone and Mother of Pearl inlay. Everyone seems to agree that the look of quality is raised exponentially with the inlay. After seeing the inlaid items, the plywood bikes and the plain wood bikes just do not look of the same quality even though they were made and assembled the same way. We still have some of the plain bikes and trikes in inventory but we will no longer make them. When they are sold, that will be it.
The 2008 on the valve cover of our Bikes and Trikes signifies that they were produced in 2008, the first year Woodwing Art was ever produced. It was meant to be like the date on a signed and numbered print or object of art. For the most part, the date was mistakenly taken to be similar to the model year of a car or bike. In 2009 we will start engraving 1800 on the valve cover. 2009 will be marked on the back of the main block. We now generate a Vehicle Identification Number to keep up with our inventory. The VIN# is marked on the back of the main block of the bike and will show on your invoice when you purchase one.
Also for 2009 we have attempted to simplify purchasing our work. Click on the "How to Purchase" tab on this Home page and it will inform you of what you need to know.
